Pixies

The Pixies are an American alternative rock band that formed in Boston in 1986. The group disbanded in 1993 under acrimonious circumstances but reunited in 2004. Black Francis (lead vocals and electric guitar and acoustic guitar), Joey Santiago (electric guitar), Kim Deal (bass guitar and backing vocals), and David Lovering (drums) have been the band's continual members. While the Pixies found only modest success in their home country, they were significantly more successful in the United Kingdom and elsewhere in Europe, although never achieving prolonged mainstream success with their studio albums.[1]

Inspired By Tim Duffy 2008 was a shit year for music. With the economy falling down around us, the music industry continued to crumble under the pressure of the internet…falling down, down, down and barely even pulling in a cent (or so they would like you to believe). Bands inspired by the few cash cows we have left aped and copied their way through records. Folks were led to believe...
Matt Bigland from the mighty Dinosaur Pile Up takes his turn to give us his take on the top 10 (err, well.. 9) acts of 2009. 1. Well I discovered Torche this year, and they’re the only band in a long while that have totally blown my brain wide open. Like the melvins but more driving. Kicking drums, really heavy, neanderthal vocal harmonies. Amazing. Torche Myspace 2....
Late last week word came down that Bob Mould had recruited No Age to perform a set of Hüsker Dü tunes it warmed my heart to know that the second best possible version of the band would indeed be hitting a stage. Sure, it may not be Mould, Grant Heart, and Greg Norton, but it will be the first time Hüsker Dü songs are played in a live setting in a few years and I’m...

Pixies Reviews

By the time Nirvana had come to fame, the Pixies had already come and gone. They never really did get all that much recognition at the time, but retrospectively they’ve become somewhat of a must-have for anyone with an ear for alternative music. Tonight saw them return to Glasgow after 18 years – their last trip in 1991, where the stage collapsed after only a few songs....
Venue: The Hope, Brighton Teaser: Nathan reviews recent Artrocker cover starts - The VEG’ as I like to call them - in Brighton. Pull quote 2: It begins with drummer Emma wandering through the audience, ringing a bell of the type normally suited to town criers. First para: Naming your stage persona after a character in a book that has connected with a lot of...
Band name: Kings of Leon Label: Columbia Teaser: In this review, Dave Hood refers to the new Kings Of Leon album by its acronym, which is ‘Bott’. Strangely appropriate, as it’s a big pile of arse. Plus there’s a feisty comment from ‘Minster’ just added, who uses personal insults and KoL’s commercial success to defend the album. Does anyone...
Venue: Koko, London Teaser: Fresh from the Pixies reunion and biting back with some LOUDquietLOUD material, Black Francis is taking Koko by storm with XX Teens by his Satanic side. Ric Rawlins reviews… Pull quote 2: no one can ‘do the banshee’ like he does… First para: XX Teens presence at Koko is almost as peverse as the legendary google results of...
Venue: Fabric Teaser: Abigail catches a gaggle of guitar driven electro acts at Fabric, and wonders whether Xerox Teens are worthy of the top-ish billing they’ve been getting lately… Pull quote 2: it’s all about Room 2 where teenage Liars Club veterans LATE OF THE PIER provide fit-inducing entertainment with their brand of danceable, squeaky electro pop...
