Club Mofo's 7th birthday on Saturday, Club Babyhoney tonight

Lady Miss K

Good news for London town folks, as there are two most awesome sounding club nights happening this weekend.  Club Motherfucker celebrates its 7th birthday on Saturday with a line up almost too good for words, including Friendship and Lady Miss freaking Kier from Dee Lite.  If you’ve never been to Mofo, for shame.  You’re missing out on the most fun you can have in this dirty old town. Remedy this by going to Bardens on Saturday 13th.

Friday night, and Club Baby Honey at the Buffalo Bar has to be worth a look in.  It’s a new indiepop night every second Friday of the month at the Buffalo Bar just outside the Highbury & Islington tube station. They put on bands they love and DJs from Twee As Fuck and So Tough! So Cute! play Indiepop, C86, Twee, Soul, Girl-Groups, Post-Punk and New Wave for a packed, smiling dancefloor….

Hunx & His Punx UK tour

The excellent Hunx & His Punx are touring the UK in April.

Dates as follows…

Wild Palms cover Bjork, give away track

Wild Palms are giving away the B-side to their new single to all and sundry. It’s a cover of Human Behaviour by Bjork and you can get it after the break.

The Zookeepers - Good Looking Out

Not content with sitting on their laurels after we awarded them our number 1 record of 2009 for Ballin Outrageous, the Zookeepers have returned to the studio and biffed out another LP. Holy shit. I guess when you’re on a roll…

I must admit, part of me wanted to find something to dislike with their new LP - Good Looking Out. If I wrote another glowing review, perhaps people would start thinking I worked for the band, or was related to them, or fancied the drummer.

But I have to tell you guys the truth, and the truth is they’ve come up with another winner.

The part of Emily Kane is played by Dora The Explorer

Here’s a sweet fan vid for Art Brut’s Emily Kane.

Made by a father and son and lots of lego, it’s a fine excuse to listen to a classic tune.

Japanese Voyeurs new single, track giveaway

If Wyldman’s recent live review has picqued your interest in Japanese Voyeurs, then you might be interested in their free download track ‘Dumb’.  They’re biffing it out to all and sundry to celebrate the release of their new single.

Details after the break.

Billy Childish art exhibition at the ICA

Robert Walser Lying Dead in the Snow, 2008
Coutesy of the artist and L-13 Light Industrial Workshop, London

Those of you who know Billy Childish for fronting various quality garage rock bands (Buff Medways, Thee Headcoats, Musicians of the British Empire etc) may not be aware of his painting expertise.  An exhibition at the ICA later this month will rectify this, as it covers all of the many artistic strings of Childish’s bow - with recent paintings, writings and of course, the music.

2hot2sweat host Pet Sounds, give away awesome mp3

Fantastic electro punkers 2hot2sweat are hosting a new club on Weds 17th Feb at The Social.  They promise "A night of animal themed musical mayhem" so appropriately, the night is called Pet Sounds.

An eccelectic but choice line up for the launch of the club sees Piney Gir, Tim Ten Yen and the hosts sharing the bill.

More details and a fantastic tune from 2hot2sweat to download after the break.

The Soft Pack play 10 shows in 1 day, tour the UK

The Soft Pack recently played 10 shows in one day to celebrate the release of their unfeasibly fine debut LP.  Crazy?  Yes!  Dumb?  Yes!  Entertaining?  Most probably!

The camera gonks at Videothing documented the whole thing, proving that a) playing a show at a record store at 10.37 in the morning probably isn’t the best idea you’ve ever had, even if your band rocks and b) if you take an infant to a rock n roll show, make sure they’re wearing HUGE ear protectors.

Very enjoyable video after the break…

Great Escape line up announced

Delphic!

The Great Escapees have made their first line up announcement, and as you’d expect from so fine a festival, it’s looking top notch.   Slow Club, Japandroids, Cold Cave, The Cheek and Ruby Suns alone are worth the price of early bird tickets - full line up after the break!
