The Force Is With Them

When did size become so important for North American and Canadian bands? I’ve been trying to convince Mrs Devil that size ain’t important and now it seems that you can’t be in a band if it’s got less members than there are legs at an octopuses garden party.

It reminds me of the scene in ”There’s Something About Mary’ with the scary bloke and his seven minute abs.

"What! Nine member bands no-one’s coming up with nine member bands. It’s eight members. Eights the key number. It’s like you’re dreamin’ about Gorgonzola cheese when it’s clearly Brie time, baby."

Photons, who include in their ranks (see since when did bands have ranks??) a guitarist who studied in the Devil’s hometown of Liverpool and used to have something going with the Wombats, are another in a lengthening list of bands that could qualify as a village in some parts of the UK. Like a lot of other orchestra sized indie bands their sound is, well, rousingly orchestral kind of like a lo-fi Arcade Fire without the ego or Polyphonic Spree without the robes, mysticism and quasi religious pomposity.

The band’s new EP, which will include ‘Where Were You Last Night’ available for download below, is scheduled for release on May 12 through Insound with a digital format release via iTunes etc. on June 23.

Photons may the force be with them.
