I’m happy to report that The Zookeepers are back with a completely brilliant new LP.
You can stream it for a limited time, but if you have any ounce of sense you’ll want to purchase it for the measly sum of four American dollars. That way, you get to own it, do what you will with it and pay your respects to a talented bunch of musicians who deserve a small glop of your cash. And to sweeten the deal, you also get some exclusive live tracks.
Ballin Outrageous is quite a step up from last year’s Giant Black Taco. It has the same infectious Unicorns-on-happy-pills psychey pop feel of the debut, but everything has been powered up. The songs are catchier, punchier, cooler. The tuneful pop numbers are more tuneful - Fat Tax deserves to be a hit single. The kick arse metal tinged gems are more kick arse. The freaky messy songs are more freaky messy. The production is shit loads better, but thankfully not at the expense of the appealing lo-fi sensibilities.
Plus there’s added trumpets.
Album of the year so far, hands down.
