The Brownies + Isosceles + Navvy + Guildean Gang

3rd Jun - Buffalo Bar, Highbury Corner

> THRE BROWNIES
> ISOSCELES (Glasgow)
> GUILDEAN GANG (London - Biggleswade)
> NAVVY (Sheffield)

> ISOSCELES (Glasgow)
Glasgow four-piece on their long over-due return to the Artrocker Club
bringing their intelligently crafted pop songs and Belle and Sebastian
associations along. A buoyant mix taking in the oddball pop of Captain
Beefheart, the joyful rush of Jonathan Richman, the jerky thrill of Orange
Juice and the DIY funk of ESG, Isosceles are, without doubt, a band in the
Great Glaswegian Postcard Records tradition, although their last visit
brought to mind the furious, early keyboard/guitar new wave of XTC.
They released a second single,
'Kitch Bitch / Watertight' through Art Goes Pop in April, a limited edition
7" following their debut, 'Get Your Hands Off'.

> GUILDEAN GANG (London - Biggleswade)
To escape the musical clutches of post Arctic Monkeys and Shambles has to be
the aim of new, melodic, and energetic indie-guitar bands. Young four-piece
Guildean Gang tread that fine line but have enough of their own energies,
and more classic influences such as Smiths, Pulp and early Cure, to catch
the attention. Also enough independent spirit to self-release a debut single
'Swirls / Pat Attack'
It's fast and furious art-pop with twin guitars jangling and stabbing to and
fro and a skittering and jaunty rhythm section to get your feet moving. In
post Shambles times we have to hope the likes of Guildean Gang will develop
identities as strong as Good Shoes and The Maccabees.

> NAVVY (Sheffield)
Awkward sounds of jerks and spasms as the post punk world of 1979/80
intended. Early Fall, The Fire Engines, Wire, The Slits are never far away
but 4 boy and girl Navvy's are gritty and determinedly 2008. Abrasive ranted
call and response vocals, galloping bass and drums (and cow-bell) you'll try
to dance to and guitars at angles you thought impossible since Swell Maps,
Pavement or Stump.
The very cool and endlessly wonderful Angular Records (These New Puritans,
Lodger, The Violets) are releasing a 4 track EP '4 Songs' on limited edition
White Vinyl 7"
