VILE IMBECILES - Queenie Was A Blonde

Released 15th July 08 on Tea Vea Eyes

Ric Rawlins decides to "ride the snake" with Brighton's Vile Imbeciles, whose demented rock 'n roll noise leads him into some very dark places indeed...

Rather like an enthusiastic dog trying to have sex with your leg, this LP is confusing, distressing and curiously entertaining all at the same time.

It’s second time round for the Brighton based Imbeciles, but you get the impression they're far from on their knees, begging the Devil for a Walkers Crisps advert. If anything, they're about as consumer friendly as Islamic Terrorism.

"This is a tough record that’s determined to challenge you at every corner..."

So there goes 95% of the population, fleeing for the hills. Which leaves the other 5% to sit back, switch on the UV lights and get deranged to their nonsensical garage-punk.

For the most part, the Imbeciles sound is that of rhythmic distortion, firecracker drums – and vocalist Andy Huxley wretching away like a Doctor Who squid-thing. Fresh air is provided by the bar room pianos of ‘The Empty Vessels’, but don’t be fooled. The squid is never far away.

This is a tough record that’s determined to challenge you at every corner, mincing your brains in a frying pan with plenty of onions in the process. Which is all thoroughly commendable of course – just don’t bring it to a date.
