After a recommendation from Kip of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, I was able to discover a group called Girls who currently reside in San Francisco. Information is kind of scarce, though, from culling through a couple of older articles, they are primarily a duo that consists of Chet JR White and Christopher Owens. They’ve released a couple of 7″ singles, and according to their myspace are currently at work on a full-length.
One of the tracks I instantly gravitated to upon listening was “Lust for Life”, which is not an Iggy Pop cover if that is what you may have instantly thought of when reading that. It’s a decisively simple song, opening with a catchy guitar riff, followed by some very peculiar lyrics about desire. Whatever the case may be, it’s a great little pop song. One that seems to end too soon, but one you’ll have a hard time getting rid of afterwards.
